SFD Nicaragua 2008

  • Our report for the SFD 2007 event can be found here.

What is the Software Freedom Day?

The Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of free and open source software (FOSS). The purpose of this celebration is to educate the public about the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in the government, at home and in the businesses - in short, everywhere! Software Freedom International is the nonprofit organization that coordinates the SFD event globally, providing support, materials and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams around the world organize events in their local communities.

The vision is to empower all people to freely connect, create and share in a digital world that is participatory, transparent and sustainable.

Objectives

  • Celebrate Free Software and the people who make it possible.
  • Develop a general understanding of free software and encourage the adoption of free software and open standards.
  • Increase equity of access to opportunities through the use of participatory technology.
  • Promote a constructive dialogue on rights and responsibilities in the information society.
  • Include organizations and individuals who share our vision.
  • Being a pragmatic, transparent and accountable organization.
