Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). • Web Development Using Apache-Mysql-Php platform: The Apache Web Server, the Mysql Database and the Php programming language is the most popular stack of software utilities which is used to develop and deploy dynamic web solutions. Netbeans, which is an open source IDE, can be used to develop on this stack. This stack is generally run on Linux or Solaris operating system making the entire stack of softwares Free and Open Source. This stack can also be implemented on the Windows operating system.

  • Open Source Gaming: There are several games like The Battle for Wesnoth, which can be played on the various Open Source platforms like Linux. Furthermore, since these games are itself Open Source, students can contribute in development and improvement of these games. Also we will show them how to run some of the common PC games on Linux/Solaris operating system and this would encourage them to use these technologies.

  • Session on GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP): GIMP is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages. We wish to promote this leading open source image editing tool with a small Demonstration of the same.

Help will also be provided in installing these softwares on their laptops. Also handouts regarding all the Open Source Softwares will be given out to the Students.
